Pick up Your Cross. Deny Yourself. Follow Me.

Many of us have goals of becoming physically fit, stronger, better, healthier. To reach those goals, there will be times we must deny ourselves treat after treat, dessert after dessert, splurge after splurge. It’s imperative that we discipline ourselves in our nutrition plans and consistent with our workouts. To build muscle or lose fat, we have to put in the work. Fitness is the tangible result of fueling our bodies and moving well. When you see someone with a relatively decent physique or playing flag football at the age of 45 and not go home injured, it is the result of consistently doing the right things in the gym and in the kitchen.

Fitness, Nutrition, and Spiritual Battle

  • Should I eat this cupcake? Is this going to help me? Hurt me? Does it even matter?

  • Do I really wanna wake up and go the gym? Is it worth it? Is my health important?

  • Will prayer really start my day off right? Will the Holy Spirit really walk with me? Talk with me?

Life is a constant battle. That battle is usually not with other people or the world…it’s within us!!

As we follow Jesus and aim to be more like Him, we have to deny ourselves instant gratification and sacrifice what we want or what “feels good”.That is hardly ever an easy thing to do

Physical and Spiritual Goals

Many of us have goals of becoming physically fit, stronger, better, healthier. To reach those goals, there will be times we must deny ourselves treat after treat, desert after desert, splurge after splurge. It’s imperative that we discipline ourselves in our nutrition plans and consistent with our workouts. To build muscle or lose fat, we have to put in the work. The same applies to our spiritual fitness. The only way we can be strong enough to carry our cross is to train our spirit man. Deny our flesh. Follow Him. That requires us to pick up our Bible (or our YouVersion Bible App) over and over again. Day after Day. It’s necessary to hit our knees and pray. Not just daily or once in a while, but constantly.

Progress Not Perfection

It’s common to be sore after workouts. It’s common that your faith will be tested or stretched. The challenge for muscles and our faith, however, causes growth. As we feed our bodies with proper nutrition, and our inner man with the Word of God, with prayer, and time with the Holy Spirit, we are growing. We are changing. We are getting stronger. In better shape, physically and spiritually.
