No matter what journey you're on, regardless of effort, work ethic, drive, determination, etc; it's hard to get where you're going if you don't have a destination. Introducing: the S.M.A.R.T. goal setting process. Ta Da!! Ok, it's no magic trick but it is extremely helpful for evaluating where you are, where you want to go, and how to get there. How can you be S.M.A.R.T.?
Specific- Define a specific Goal.
It's important to know what you want.
Set a long-term goal- where you want to be and what you want to achieve ultimately.
Set short-term goals- Short term goals prevent being overwhelmed and give you small victories along the way and keep you encouraged.
Measurable- Have a defined way to track progress.
What metrics will you use to determine if you're on track to meet the goal?
Have sheets, plans, data, etc to measure progress
Attainable- Set realistic Goals.
Set goals that require effort, but not so unachievable you will be left disappointed. Small progress is still progress.
Your goal should inspire, encourage, and motivate you. Discouragement is a common enemy.
Relevant/Rewarding- Your Why.
What is the reward? What are you getting from achieving your goal?
The goal should ultimately benefit you, your loved ones, or an important aspect of your life
Time-Bound- Have a time frame.
Every goal has to have a time frame. This helps keep you accountable.
Time constraints should keep you working hard to achieve goals but not overwhelm or cause stress. Enjoy the process and the journey.
Tips and Helps from one who has failed often:
Make a Plan- Make a plan you can stick to. Don't "reach for the stars". Understand "your why". Be consistent, not perfect. Anyone can reach their goals and improve their life with plan and consistent effort.
Progress- Have smaller goals and celebrate the small wins. Create habits that you can maintain. A healthy lifestyle is not a sprint, it's a marathon.
Be Prepared- Failure in inevitable. Live, learn, and make improvements along the way. Be prepared for "LIFE" to happen. Schedules change, sickness occurs, seasons change. Do your best to stick to the plan or adjust accordingly.
Support System- Find a support system that is encouraging, supportive, and like-minded goals. Accountability from a small group/ workout class, or even on online community can be helpful. Feel free to join the Rise Up Community @ https://www.facebook.com/RiseUpTraining.fit/
